Fisher-Price Recalls 2 Million Snuga Swings Due to Infant Deaths

Fisher-Price announced that is was recalling more than 2 million Snuga Swings due to a suffocation hazard on Thursday, October 10, 2024. This recall came in response to reports on five infant deaths that occurred while sleeping in the device. Approximately 2.1 million swings were sold in the United States, about 99,000 swings were sold in Canada and about 500 swings were sold in Mexico. 

Between 2012 and 2022, five infants, aged 1 to 3 months old, were killed by suffocation while they slept in a Snuga Swing. In most of these cases, additional bedding materials were added to the swings, which can increase the risk of suffocation. 

The recalled parts include the headrest and the body support insert on the seat pad. Fisher Price has instructed consumers to immediately remove these parts of the swing. Consumers have also been offered a $25 refund for the product. 

This is not the first time Fisher Price has recalled an infant product. In 2019, Rock n’ Play Sleepers were recalled after reports of over 100 infant deaths linked to them. Fisher-Price’s Rock ‘n Glide Soother were also recalled in 2021 after four infant deaths were reported in connection with them. In 2022, Fisher-Price informed consumers that 13 infant deaths had been linked to its Infant-to-Toddler Rockers and Newborn-to-Toddler Rockers. These products were not recalled. 

In response to the Snuga Swing recall, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an alert that the swing “should never be used for sleep and bedding materials should never be added to it” because the headrest and body support insert located on the seat cap “can increase the risk of suffocation.”
