Growing up in a home with a father and brother who were surgeons, I often would hear stories during dinner time conversations about what types of injuries their patients had come to them with and how they fixed them. However, rather than focus on the specifics of the injuries and treatment, I would ask why? Why was the person injured? How did it happen? How can I help?
When a person suffers an injury, getting the best medical care is only one part of the equation. Often the stress involved with navigating all the other issues (i.e., loss of income, medical bills, insurance) is equal to or worse than the pain sustained by the injuries themselves.
