I took a verdict not too long ago where a client was injured and nobody else wanted to take his case. It was a controversial case because our client was on a police officer’s body cam yelling and screaming and using profanity. And if you just look at the video without context, it is not a good look. It’s not something you would ever want to play in church, let alone in court. But when I got to know this person, I found out that he was truly injured and had multiple surgeries. And when I learned what he went through and I put the context of what happened that led to that video, I found out that he was put in a situation where he was hit by another driver and left in the gutter and abandoned like he was a piece of garbage. And when he went to confront the defendant who happened to have a headquarters on the same street where he lived, he was told by the manager of that company, “Hey, go take a walk around the block.” And was again felt unseen and invisible. And when he wouldn’t leave because he wanted justice, the police arrived.

And when the police arrived, he thought they were there to help him. But in fact, they got a complaint from the company that had hit him and left him for dead in the gutter, and they were there to arrest him. And when he learned that as a victim of a hit and run that he was now the accused, he lost his cool and he said things that you shouldn’t say. But when the jury found out the true story and found in his favor and awarded him his medical expenses and pain and suffering for everything he went through, it was one of the most rewarding verdicts I’ve ever had.
