Why Is There A Sunscreen Recall?

The five products listed above have been recalled by Neutrogena’s parent company, Johnson & Johnson, because the sunscreens contained benzene, which is known to cause cancer.

Making matters worse, the Neutrogena sunblock products above were found to contain excess levels of benzene.

Johnson & Johnson only issued the recall after an independent lab filed a petition with the FDA (Food & Drug Administration). The independent study found that high concentrations of benzene was found in 78 popular sunscreens made by various manufacturers.

Can Sunscreen Give You Cancer?

If the sunscreen contains any potential carcinogens, like benzene, it may be the cause of certain types of cancer or leukemia. Independent studies have found that over 70 popular sunscreens contain benzene.

Dermatologists at Yale University say the levels of benzene that exist in some sunscreen products are not safe. That’s because the body can absorb the chemical, which then enters the bloodstream. Doctors believe this can cause acute lymphocytic leukemia, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and many other potentially serious types of health problems.

How Does A Sunscreen Lawsuit Work?

The Barnes Firm is currently accepting cases, and you need to file before deadlines pass and it’s too late! Sunscreen lawsuit lawyers are currently working on litigation that claims Johnson & Johnson violated public trust, and expressed negligence in the following ways:

  • Defective Product Design; sunscreens contain high levels of a cancer-causing chemical, benzene.
  • Failure to Warn; products fail to warn consumers that certain chemicals in the sunscreen may cause cancer
  • Deceptive Trade Tactics; J&J knew benzene is a carcinogen, and an investigation may find that they purposely hid this information from the public to make more profit.
  • Gross Negligence; despite knowing the potential health consequences of benzene, manufacturers used the chemical anyhow.
  • And more…

Class-action lawsuits have already been filed in federal court, and anyone who bought sunscreen containing benzene after 2017 may be able to file a claim.
