San Diego, CA – On the morning of May 22, 2025, a small private jet crashed into the Murphy Canyon neighborhood of San Diego, resulting in multiple fatalities among those onboard. The Cessna 550, capable of carrying eight to ten people, was approaching Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport when it went down, igniting fires that damaged at least 15 homes and several vehicles.
The crash led to the evacuation of over 100 residents, many from military housing, and the closure of nearby elementary schools. One person was hospitalized, and two others received treatment at the scene. Authorities reported that all fatalities were from the aircraft, with no ground casualties. The exact number of people onboard remains unknown.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
