My name is Christian Oliver and I’m the managing attorney in our San Diego office. When I was 16, I was involved in a really bad car accident with my best friend. After the accident, there was a long period of uncertainty where my parents were worried about paying the bills. I was worried about my future with injuries that had lifelong consequences. My uncle was a lawyer and helped my family through that process. It got me interested in how I might be able to help other people who face similar injuries in the future. I went to the University of Buffalo, and after law school, I moved to New York. I took the New York bar, and then when my family decided to move out to California with two kids and a full-time job. I also took the California bar.

I would describe my approach to practicing law as one of patience balanced with aggression. The key is to get the best result possible, and sometimes that requires being patient, and other times it involves being aggressive. And the trick is having the wisdom to know the difference between the two. What sets me apart from other attorneys in my field is the personal experience I had as a victim of a very significant car crash, and knowing what it feels like to be helpless and dependent on others, and to be fearful for your future, all because of something that wasn’t anything that I did wrong. Having that empathy, I think, helps me put myself in the shoes of my clients and know what they need so that they can have a brighter future.

I love working for The Barnes Firm. I’ve been with this firm in one capacity or another since I was in high school. It’s brought me from Buffalo to New York City all the way to here to San Diego.
