Two Killed and Two Injured in Wrong Way Collision

Castroville, CA – A tragic wrong-way collision occurred on California’s Highway 1, near Castroville, close to Highway 183, On Tuesday, May 23, 2023. According to the California Highway Patrol, a GMC Sierra was heading northbound on Highway 1 at around 12:40 p.m. when it suddenly veered across the double yellow lines into the southbound lanes and collided with a Mazda that was traveling southbound.

The driver of the GMC, a 69-year-old Santa Cruz resident named David Randall Hart, sustained major injuries. Meanwhile, the driver and one of the passengers in the Mazda were killed, and the other passenger was taken to the hospital with significant injuries. The authorities are still investigating the reasons behind the GMC driver’s decision to cross into the wrong-way lanes.
