Livermore, CA – A Bell 407 Helicopter crashed Wednesday, May 11, 2022, during a training mission just before 10 a.m. The helicopter crashed at Pacific Gas & Electric’s (PG&E) Livermore Electric Safety Academy on the 7200 block of National Drive between Greenville Road and S. Vasco Road.
PG&E confirmed the helicopter was owned by a contractor performing training exercises on the property. Two people were injured and hospitalized because of the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the cause of the crash.
Helicopters are very complex vehicles and require the highest level of maintenance. In this devastating accident, a mechanical defect caused the deadly crash. Often, there may be more than one defendant whose actions had a role in the crash. An additional independent legal investigation may be required to evaluate all aspects of the crash and thoroughly examine the details of the case.
This may include reviewing:
- Helicopter maintenance history
- Helicopter design problems
- FAA violations
- Repair or maintenance mistakes
- Pilot error
- Mechanical defects
- Helicopter structural instability
- Other problems with this model of helicopter
