Two Dead and Several Injured After Boat Capsizes in Hudson River
Manhattan, NY – A boating accident occurred in the Hudson River on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. The accident happened around 2:45 p.m.
According to authorities, the boat capsized, sending all 12 occupants into the water, and trapping two of them beneath the boat. New York City Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene. The two trapped beneath the boat were transported to local hospitals where they later died. Eight others were injured in this accident. The victims have been identified as Julian Vasquez, 7, and Lindelia Vasquez, 47.
According to reports, the boat had been chartered by the family and launched during a small craft advisory, meaning waves were elevated. Investigators believe overcrowding also could have contributed to this incident.
Unfortunately, over 4,000 boating accidents occur each year in the United States. In this devastating accident, the family of the victim should have their investigative team evaluate all aspects surrounding the accident. This includes reviewing:
- Boat maintenance history
- Capacity of the boat
- Evaluation of weather conditions
- Mechanical defects
- Determination if boat should have been allowed to travel during the small craft advisory
- Boat design problems
- Repair or maintenance mistakes
- Evaluation if charter company safety guidelines are in place and up to code
