Six Injured and One Fatality Reported in Big Rig Collision
Moonlight Beach, CA – On Monday, April 10, 2023, a 33-year-old woman lost her life in a multi-vehicle collision that involved a big rig on Interstate 5 near Moonlight Beach. The incident occurred at around 10:45 a.m., just south of Encinitas Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident involved a white Chrysler Pacifica, a grey Honda Civic, a semi-truck tractor-trailer, and a Ford Explorer in the carpool lane.
The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica drove onto the right shoulder and collided with the Honda Civic, causing both vehicles to crash into the right shoulder guardrail and into the path of the semi-truck. The semi-truck hit both cars, causing the Chrysler minivan to overturn into the path of the Ford Explorer in the carpool lane, resulting in the death of the 33-year-old passenger. The driver, passenger, and an infant in the Chrysler were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Three children in the Honda Civic were also taken to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
