Records showed the tour bus is owned by JTR Transportation, based out of Poughkeepsie. Police say the JTR Transportation tour bus was being driven by Fermin P. Vasquez when it went off the road just west of exit 40 (Weedsport), and rolled over in the grass. NY State Troopers also confirmed the bus was heading to Niagara Falls, NY.
There were a total of 57 passengers on the bus, police said, including the driver, Fermin Vasquez. A total of 30 bus accident victims went by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, the region’s top-level trauma center designated to handle the most serious injuries, according to Darryl Geddes, a hospital spokesperson.
Auburn Community Hospital took in 27 passengers for treatment, a hospital spokesperson said.
Juan Gil-Urrego told WSYR-TV that the victims included children and adults suffering injuries ranging from minor to severe. Gil-Urrego said his mother, Ximena Urrego, arranged a trip to Niagara Falls. According to her son, Ximena Urrego was taken to the hospital with glass in her eye and needing back surgery.
