Ram Trucks Recalled After Reports of Wheels Falling Off

Fiat Chrysler announced it’s recalling over a half-million heavy duty Ram trucks to fix a problem that could cause the wheels to fall off of the truck.

This latest recall affects 2012-2021 Ram 3500 heavy-duty pickups, the Ram 4500, and the Ram 5500 cab-chassis vehicles that were sold in North America. Here’s what to do if you find yourself with one of these vehicles:

According to Fiat Chrysler, some of the trucks’ service and owner’s manuals had incorrect torque specifications for tightening lug nuts. It was later discovered that if the nuts were tightened too much, it could cause significant damage, and the wheels could fall off.

The auto company stated that the wheels were tightened correctly at the factory, so the only trucks impacted would be those that have had service on the wheels.

Although the company said it didn’t know of any crashes or injuries caused by this problem, The Barnes Firm’s best injury lawyers in New York & California say the potential for disaster is evident.

If You’ve Been Injured While Driving A Ram Truck

A vehicle without wheels is dangerous. That’s obvious. If you’ve been involved in an accident like this, you know just how disastrous this mistake can be. Loose wheels can cause you to lose control of the vehicle, which often results in a serious accident.

If you’ve been hurt while driving a recalled Ram truck, it’s critical that you get medical attention immediately. Then, call one of The Barnes Firm’s best car accident lawyers in your area.  Our team will immediately begin investigating the cause of your crash, and gather the evidence you need to maximize the compensation you’re owed.

Some of the items our team would look at include:

  • Age of the vehicle
  • Mechanical history
  • Full audit of the accident to determine cause
  • Examination of the road and intersection quality
  • Examination of signage
  • Expert testimony from auto professionals
  • And more

If You Have A Recalled Ram Truck

Most of the time, recalls like this one issued by Fiat Chrysler are precautionary. That means there’s just potential for a serious defect; it does not guarantee that something will go wrong with your vehicle.

It’s important to contact the manufacturer as soon as possible if your vehicle has any open recalls. The manufacturer will likely send you to a dealership or auto shop to have your vehicle fixed. In this case, if your truck has a service history, it’s important to get your vehicle to a mechanic immediately. Since the vehicle has officially been recalled, the manufacturer will pick up the tab for any relevant, required repairs.

Fiat Chrysler says its dealerships and partners will correct the manuals, and do a full inspection of the truck’s wheel studs. If required, the studs will be replaced.

All owners will be notified about the recall within eight weeks, the company said.
