Get To Know Los Angeles Injury Attorney Howard Blumenthal

I have lived in the Los Angeles area all of my life including my undergraduate years at UCLA. Before I began law school, I was an insurance adjuster for a major insurance company and also worked as a personal injury case manager for a Beverly Hills law firm.  I completed my J.D. at UWLA at night while working full time and passed the California State Bar exam on my first attempt.

In my career that spans almost 25 years including over 5 years with Cellino & Barnes and The Barnes Firm, I have resolved over 150 million dollars worth of personal injury claims involving nearly 6,000 cases. I also spent a year in the early part of my career with a firm that specialized in defending insurance companies which gives me a unique insight into the legal techniques insurance companies will use to minimize payouts to injured victims.

I am a mandatory settlement officer for the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, have been an invited speaker both in person at seminars and on webinars to educate lawyers and also am a past president of the Antelope Valley Bar Association. Currently and for the last 30 years, my family and I have lived in Valencia, a short drive away from The Barnes Firm’s downtown Los Angeles office.

My favorite restaurant in Los Angeles is Mortons Steakhouse which I first learned of when I was a law student when the firm I was working for took us there for a Christmas lunch.  It is a place that I go only on special occasions and I never take for granted that my hard work allows me to go here and celebrate the happy events of life.

The fact that almost any problem is solvable.  When I was a young lawyer and inexperienced, it bothered me that there were no exact answers in the law.  Now, I use it to my clients best interest in coming up with arguments that use the facts available realizing that many times the better more well reasoned argument wins and that challenge is one that makes me enjoy what I do for a living.

Anything funny because you cannot take life too seriously including making fun of myself because I do not think you can be well balanced without the ability to laugh at yourself sometimes.

My father told me when I was young that whatever I decide to do for a living make sure that I have a passion for it because if you do you will never be unhappy working which will take up a good part of your life.  My father was a structural draftsman who was still called back to work into his mid 70s and is the basis for my strong work ethic.

Hope that I can stay home and make myself comfortable while always having my phone at my side to make sure my clients can get ahold of me.

You cannot control what happens but you can control how you react to it.

The best way is to email me  at or call our phone line at (800) 800-0000.  However, every client gets my personal cel phone so that they can always get ahold of me 24 hours a day seven days a week.
