One Killed and Five Injured in Manhattan Parking Garage Collapse

Manhattan, NY – A tragic incident occurred in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, when a parking garage collapsed, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The collapse occurred around 4 p.m. in a parking garage located on Ann Street near Nassau Street. Fire Department of New York (FDNY) officials reported that the second floor of a five-story parking garage collapsed into the first floor, causing a collapse that resulted in the top floor falling all the way down into the cellar. One worker died and four others were hospitalized in this incident.

The Department of Buildings (DOB) reported that the building had active permits related to electrical work on the premise. The DOB also reported existing violations that remained open on the parking garage were quite old and provided a sense of deterioration inside the building. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
