Infant Fatally Injured After Car Drives Onto Sidewalk

Orange County, CA – A tragic incident occurred in Orange County on Sunday, resulting in the death of an 11-month-old child. According to California Highway Patrol, a driver lost control of his vehicle and hit a family of three who were walking on the sidewalk with their child in a stroller. The incident took place around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2023, near Antonio Parkway and Oak Tree Lane in the Las Flores area.

Reports suggest that a 54-year-old San Clemente man was driving a 2017 Hyundai Sonata when he left the roadway and hit the family. The 34-year-old man, 31-year-old woman, and their infant, residents of Rancho Santa Margarita, were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Unfortunately, the child passed away due to its injuries and was pronounced dead at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. The 54-year-old driver, who was also hospitalized, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, according to CHP officials.
