Drunk Driver Kills One, Injures Four Others in Manhattan

Manhattan, NY – A horrific accident in Manhattan has left one person dead and several others injured, after an alleged drunk driver plowed into multiple people at an intersection. The driver, identified as Mahbub Ali, was driving a Hyundai Sonata when he veered off the road, striking a cyclist and three other people before crashing into a van. The crash occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the Third Avenue and East 21 Street in Gramercy, according to police.

According to reports, a 23-year-old man was struck while crossing the street within the crosswalk, and then the driver swerved to the right, hitting an 18-year-old man riding an e-bike. The sedan then went onto the sidewalk, ramming into a 21-year-old man and 26-year-old woman who were walking. The man who was struck while crossing the street was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital, while the woman walking on the sidewalk was critically injured. The driver was charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, assault, and driving while intoxicated, and was taken into custody at the scene.
