Bronx, NY – A driver was injured after a boom truck collapsed onto her vehicle on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, around 10:40 a.m. The accident occurred Bedford Park Boulevard near the Grand Concourse.
According to reports, Danielle Cruz was stopped at a red light when part of a construction vehicle came crashing onto her car. The construction vehicle was lifting a load of metal from a trailer onto the roof of a construction project when the arm of the boom collapsed. After the accident, the city found three violations on the construction site: failure to safeguard the construction site, failure to have the hoist or construction elevator in a state of readiness, and failure to obtain electrical permits for temporary lighting at the site. Cruz was treated at the hospital for pain and injuries.
Construction vehicles can cause serious and devastating injuries when they are put in the hands of unexperienced or negligent people. In this accident, the injured victim should have an independent legal investigation performed to preserve evidence. This includes reviewing:
- Evaluation of construction site working conditions
- Evaluation if construction site safety regulations are up to code
- Determination if proper guardrails, safety nets, and fall arrest systems were in place
- Evaluation if proper lighting was being used
Construction companies and supervisors have a responsibility to assure all safety measures are in place and guideline are being followed.
