3-year-old and Grandmother Fatally Struck by Garbage Truck

Poughkeepsie, NY – A 3-year-old boy and his 72-year-old grandmother were struck and killed by a garbage truck at the intersection of Mary Avenue and Stanley Street in Poughkeepsie. The accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022.  

Town of Poughkeepsie Police say a 2019 Royal carting garbage truck operated by a 41-year-old man struck the pedestrians. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The grandmother was taken to Westchester Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries. The investigation into this accident is ongoing.
