Ladder & Scaffold Accidents

Ladder and Scaffold Accidents

Ladder and Scaffold Injury Attorney, Buffalo, New York (NY)

Rochester, New York (NY) Attorney Helping Scaffold Accident Victims

According to OSHA, scaffold and ladder injuries account for approximately 41% of all fall injuries on construction sites. The dangers involved when working on ladders and scaffolds are far greater than those associated with other types of construction work.

Falls from scaffolds alone account for approximately 50 deaths and 4,500 injuries every year. Scaffolds must be properly constructed and mounted and the weight limit should not be exceeded. Plank slippage and support failures are some common causes of scaffold accidents.

To avoid potential falls, all ladders should be checked for proper positioning and steadiness and the appropriateness to the job.  Safety measures may include non-skid rungs and side guardrails.

In additional to fall injuries from scaffolds and ladders, falls may occur from roof tops, girders, poles, through unreinforced walls, a hole in the floor or through thin or inappropriate flooring. Guardrails, safety nets and fall arrest systems should be in place to ensure the safety of construction workers.

New York State has a statute to protect those who work at elevated heights. The statute is Labor Law Section 240, also know as the "Scaffold Law."  For more information on this statute, click on Labor Law Section 240.
